RTW: Long-Distance Bussing

Europeans never cease to be amazed by the vast distances in Australia. The idea that an eight-hour bus journey will take them a few millimetres on a map baffles the kind of person who can drive across their own country and into another one in the same amount of time.

RTW: Australia - Backpacker Capital of the World?

I'll say it: Australia is the most backpacker-friendly country in the world. Of course this depends on your definition of friendly, and your definition of backpacker but as far as life-simplifying backpacker infrastructure goes, Australia is a force to be reckoned with.
