Hostelling International's Board would like to engage our members and encourage them to take ownership of the association by attending our upcoming meetings. We will discuss the results of our ownership survey at these meetings, along with topics such as volunteer involvement, environmental sustainability, and our statement on concentrating on youth.

Can you imagine volunteering to build a hostel? In 1933, hostelling was introduced to North America when sisters Mary Belle and Catherine Barclay put up a 12’ x 14’ canvas tent to accommodate youth travellers. Three years later, a modest wood cabin was built to replace it. It was from these humble beginnings in Bragg Creek, Alberta, that Hostelling International – Canada, and indeed, hostelling on this continent, grew. Read more »

Your volunteer Hostelling International – Canada – Pacific Mountain Region Board of Directors is made up of members just like you! We need your help as we chart the future of hostelling in our region. The Board is responsible for the governance of the association, and input from members who are passionate about hostelling and its future is important to us. Please answer a short survey so we can confidently move forward together. It should take approximately 15 minutes. Starting in February 2012, once we have the results, we will be holding small focus groups to further discussions with members. Read more »
Hostelling International-Canada is proud to announce that its members and keen hostellers have voted Parks Canada as the 2011 Partner of the Year. Winners and finalists were recognized at the HI-Canada Annual Operation Meeting, the organization's annual gathering of regional partners, on November 7-10 in Halifax. Read more »
Hostelling International-Canada (HI-Canada) introduced a new national award this year, Hostel of the Year. The organization is proud to announce that its members and international hostel users have rated HI-Lake Louise Alpine Centre as the Hostel of the Year. Read more »
