For the adult crowd looking to grab a bite before a night out, check out DaDeO's. Located on Whyte Avenue and 106th Street, this small diner has a variety of delicious po' boys and pitchers to share with friends. (The crab cake po' boy is to die for!) Before your meal arrives, Dadeos serves patrons amazing biscuits and jalapeño jelly!
Head a few blocks north to the Princess Cinema to catch a movie. You can't miss this vintage looking theatre. The two screens show a range of foreign films, independent movies, and movies featured at festivals across the globe. Make sure to show your Hostelling International membership and snag the student price of $6 CAD.
If movies aren't your style and you'd rather grab a drink, I recommend making stops at O'Byrne's Irish Pub, which offers massive pub space and a lively crowd, or Julio's Barrio, located near Dadeos, for Mexican food and mixed drinks.
If you're looking to do some shopping, stop in at the Wee Book Inn for a wide selection of used books and DVDs for cheap. Located on Whyte Avenue and 104th Street, this is a great spot for students looking to save on school textbooks or backpackers who want a cheap read for a long flight or bus ride.
If you're just heading back to the hostel after a night out, make a stop at any of the late night food options that pepper Whyte Avenue. Checkers Pizza and Fat Franks have got you covered. Grab a fantastic slice of pizza or a kebab at Checkers, and Fat Franks boasts as Edmonton's Only Professional Hot Dog Street Vendor and on weekends it's open until 4 a.m.!
Our staff at HI-Edmonton can definitely point you in the direction of great food, a fab night out, or even a low key night on Whyte Avenue. Come say hi!
