It’s often said there are only two seasons in Canada: hockey season and the off-season. Well, Canada's favourite time of year is well underway as the 2010-11 NHL season kicked off last month.
Hockey fans will tell you that there is no more storied franchise than the Montreal Canadiens. Les Habitants are a perpetual topic of conversation in Montreal. Whether it’s reliving the team’s glorious past or complaining about its current goaltending situation, it’s hard not to spend time in Montreal without hearing about the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge. For many Montrealers the team is nothing short of a religion (the Université de Montreal even teaches a course on the topic).
A trip to Montreal wouldn't be complete without a stop by the Bell Centre, which is located just two blocks away from the HI-Montreal. Outside of the Bell Centre are a series of statues of Habs greats like Guy Lafleur, Jean Beliveau, and Maurice “Rocket” Richard.
Canadiens games are often the toughest ticket in town. Fortunately, HI-Montreal offers guests a Hockey Night in Canada package that includes one hockey ticket, morning breakfast in the hostel and one welcome drink at the hostel bar where you can check out the hostel’s small shrine to the Canadiens. Hockey Night in Canada packages start at $52.50 + tax.
