After winning the Hostelling International Blog the Games contest back in December I have now arrived in Vancouver!!
Dan HB here!!
Friday 12th of February and at last time to fly to Vancouver for the Blog the Games Olympics week! Very exciting stuff!!
The only thing to do was head out onto the streets to see what the vibe in the city was like.... as you'll see from this first quick hello there was plenty of noise and a real hustle and bustle...
I can't wait to see what happens over the next week here - feel free to come find me!!
Best for now,
HB

Hey Dan HB,
Great to see that you are in the middle of it all, I hope you enjoy every moment.
Can't wait to hear more from you!
Don't forget to smile!
Cheers

Hi Dan! Looking forward to reading your blog. If you want to get a good sense of the city, I'd suggest taking a walking tour with my friend Steve, who runs Tour Guys. The free tours are popular with backpackers in Vancouver AND Toronto (where I run them). Steve and his team are doing free walking tours of Vancouver and have them going daily during the Olympics.

Hey Dan,
Great footage for day 1! You definitely caught a lot of the action on Granville Street. Enjoy the rest of your time in the city and at the hostel! Remember, fresh towels at the front desk.
Cheryl :)
Hi Dan HB! So are you cheering for Team GB or Canada? :) Canada I hope! Here's a suggestion to get cheap, last minute tickets to events: call 1-800-842-5387 (Vancouver 2010 Ticket Agency) a day or so before an event you want to see and ask if they have put tickets on sale! Biathalon tickets went for only $25 today! But you have to call back often. Or just head to a the main ticketing booth and they can tell you if anything is on sale. Have a great time!
Lucky U!! Welcome, talk to everyone....share the international mix our city has., ie the surname on the athletes' roster are the same names in the vancouver phone book! We are all immigrants from somewhere else or like me - are first gen canadian. Don't miss the Aboriginal pavilion or the French on granville island.
Use the mini ferries, and seabus to criss-cross and stay outdoors - walk till you drop!!
Great to see your first video blog, but your camerawork leaves a bit to be desired! Enjoy the games!
Yo....yo...yo....! OMG the green!!! Anyway, glad you have made it, we still have more snow than you guys i think! All looks so exciting out there, ENJOY and we're looking forward to the next video!! Take care x

If your going to the mountains, try not to miss the Lake Louise Hostel. It is one of the nicest Hostels in the world, in my humble opinion!! Just a great winter wonderland there. Have a great time in Canada. Barbara in Shanghai, China.
