New HI-Whistler Opens Next Summer

The new HI-Whistler hostel is just about finished and the building will soon be home to athletes during the Olympics. The hostel will open next summer but you can get a sneak peek at what's in store at Whistler's finest budget accommodation right now.
The brand-new hostel is going to mean way more room for budget travellers in Whistler. The old HI-Whistler had room for only 25 people and the new hostel sleeps 180. There are two floors of rooms, including 14 private rooms and all of them have ensuite bathrooms. There's a big kitchen, a TV room, lounge, and games room. There's plenty of space to store your outdoor gear like skis, snowboards and bikes.
The hostel will officially open next summer. Stay tuned to The Buzz for more details as it becomes available or check out HI-Whistler's new website.

Yeah cool but what are they gonna charge to stay a night, especially in high season? I hope it's not gonna be anything like European hostel prices ($50 to $60 CAD per night)!!

WOW! Finally. The old place was cozy, noisy (railroad) quaint, and crowded. Good job HI getting it done.

Thanks for the great questions guys. Rates for a shared room in the high season will only be about $30, which is in line with HI hostels in Vancouver. We're going to miss HI-Whistler on Alta Lake too, the location is beautiful. The old fishing lodge came to HI back in 1969 and only sleeps 25 people, which just isn't feasible in a place like Whistler anymore. The Regional Municipality of Whistler has purchased the property and we haven't heard yet what they intend to do with it but we'll keep you posted. The current HI-Whistler on Alta Lake is still open, and will stay open until the new hostel takes over next summer.

What about the other hostel which is beautifully located on the lake? Just a fantastic location for a summer picnic.
